Military Medal 'At near St Julien on 11th October 1917. For gallantry and devotion to duty in keeping his Battery in constant telephonic communication with Group Headquarters, despite heavy fire and constant breaks. Later in the day when a complete detachment was casualties, he succoured the wounded, and although not a gun Sergeant, took over the gun and kept same in action.'
