Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 2nd near Crevecoeur while doing duty as a Transport Driver, Private Burnside showed great gallantry and devotion to duty in crossing a bridge under heavy enemy shell fire with water and
rations for his comrades in the front line. It was due in a large measure to the gallantry shown by Private Burnside that the supply of water and rations arrived for his comrades that night. He set a magnificent example to his comrades.'
