Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry during the action on 25th September 1916 in the taking of Goose Alley, when in the face of very heavy artillery fire he went out repeatedly and repaired the Brigade telephone wire, which ran above ground all the way, thus enabling telephone communication to be kept up. Pte Brown repaired the wires not only in his sector but in the next sector as well, as he could see that linesmen were not available.'
