'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the morning of the 25th September, 1918. He was in charge of a vanguard during the march on Amman. Though his squadron came under heavy rifle, machine gun, and shell fire, he skillfully made dispositions and forced back the enemy. During the attack he made personal reconnaissances, and brilliantly led his squadron in the attack, capturing prisoners and machine-guns. His energy, initiative and sound judgement set a magnificent example to all ranks under his command.'
