Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In an attack on Bon Avis Ridge on September 29th 1918, the Corporal in command of this man's Lewis gun Section became a casualty and he immediately assumed command. He handled his section with great skill and gallantry and engaged and put out of action several enemy machine-guns, killing and capturing the crews. He showed great skill and initiative and set a splendid example to the men of his section.'
