Source: London Gazette Date: Mentioned in Despatches 'He commanded a platoon in the raids, (16 officers & 316 other ranks) south of Armentieres and in face of machine gun fire led them to join the assault on the
enemy front line and very successfully completed the allotted task. His coolness and spirit in attack was a great example to all near him. He is at all times an energetic Officer, and has the confidence and respect of his men.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Messines on 7th June 1917 after his Company Commander and the next senior Officer had been wounded he took command of the Company and handled it with conspicuous ability. While holding the Line before the Battle of Messines and later on in front of Warenton he executed reconnaissances of great value. He has been in every action in which the Battalion has taken part in France, and previously on the Gallipoli Peninsula and has always shown the greatest courage and skill in leading his platoon. He is the best Platoon Commander in the Battalion.'
