Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in the Field. East of St Julien on the 4th October this NCO took charge of his Platoon at the commencement of the attack, when his Platoon commander had been casualties. Throughout the advance he led his men in an exceptionally capable manner, exhibiting great personal courage in opposing
and overcoming the opposition encountered. On arrival at the objective, he organised his Platoon for the consolidation and rendered assistance which was
invaluable to the only Officer left in his Company. He worked regardless of his own safety, and set a splendid example to his men.'
