Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field on the 20th March 1918 north east of Mailly Maillet. At a critical time Sergeant Ruff organised a small party of men and rushed the enemy position killing and wounding the garrison. Though greatly outnumbered their fire, dash, and coolness carried the position in the face of stubborn resistance, and heavy enemy machine gun fire. By his fine leadership
and determination, he greatly inspired all under his command.'
