'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on the Belle Vue Spur on the 12th October 1917 this non commissioned officer was Medical Orderly to the Battalion and for three days and nights he was continually on duty tending to the wounded. It was only owing to his untiring energy and contempt for danger that the lives of many men were saved.'
