Military Medal 'For gallantry under heavy fire and devotion to duty on October 4th 1917 at Gravenstafel. This man repeatedly took his squad through heavy fire to the forward Aid Posts and by his coolness and by the example he set the other men kept the Aid Posts clear. He carried on this work for 48 hours with untiring energy.'
