Source: London Gazette Date: Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his battalion commander became a casualty he assumed command and handled his men with remarkable
coolness and skill. At the commencement of an attack he was shot in the arm and leg, but refused to leave his command, even to have his wounds dressed, until the battalion was relieved three days later. His example of unfailing courage and endurance inspired all under his command during a very trying time.'
