Tried by Field General Court Martial, Etaples, 11 June 1917, on charge of when on Active Service deserting: when under order to train to the front absented himself without leave from 10.30 am, 29 May, to 8.30 pm, 30 May 1917, with intent to avoid Active Service at the front: awarded 2 years' imprisonment with hard labour.

Admitted to No 5 Military Prison, Les Attaques, 27 June 1917.

Released from prison, entrained for unit at the front, and remainder of sentence suspended, 19 June 1918.

Rejoined Bn, 24 June 1918.

Killed in action, 24 August 1918.
