Medals

Military Medal

'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations of the New Zealand Division east of Ypres on October 4th 1917, this man acted as Company runner and did valuable work in carrying important messages under heavy machine gun fire. Owing to all the platoon Officers being killed or wounded he had extra running to do and assisted his Company Commander to organise his Company for attack on various strong points. After the objective had been taken he kept up communication with the posts, although exposed to enemy sniping, until he was wounded.'
