'For devotion to duty. This man has a splendid record of service and has performed his duties with the greatest possible zeal. He is the Sergeant Cook of the Battalion and as much has been of enormous assistance to all, especially during the actions which the Battalion has been engaged in. Under the heaviest fire he has successfully performed everything asked of him with striking success.'
