'Operations: British Front in the vicinity of the Foret de Mormal - 5th November 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations the Company to which Private Kelly belongs, attacked and was held up temporarily. Finding an enemy machine-gun, he took it forward to the flank and opened fire with so much success that he drove the enemy from the position and the attack progressed. His prompt action at a critical moment undoubtedly saved casualties and helped greatly in the success of the day.'
