Military Medal 'On February 14th 1917 this man was in charge, of a stokes Mortar Gun in action. A cartridge misfired. The fuse of the shell was which was in the Mortar was heard fizzing. Corporal Jefferis seized the mortar and inverted it, shaking out the shell which was seized by Private Hough, who threw it over the parapet where it exploded. He thereby prevented the loss of the Mortar and 60 rounds of ammunition lying beside it. This man has previously done good work with the Battery.'
