Embarked Port Said, 9 April 1916, to join the British Expeditionary Force, France.

Wounded in action, 2 September 1916 (gas shell), and admitted to Wessex Field Ambulance; transferred to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, 4 September 1916; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 13 September 1916; rejoined unit, in the field, 4 October 1916.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 4 August 1917 (gun shot wound, face, cranium), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station.

Died of wounds, 4 August 1917.
