Bar to Military Cross 'While making a personal reconnaissances of our outpost line he encountered a party of four of the enemy who had filtered through the line. He attacked them single-handed without hesitation. Shooting two with his pistol he closed with the others and knocked down one with his fist, whereupon the other fled. He showed a fine example of courage and determination.'
Source: 'London Gazette' Date: Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and good work. He carried out several reconnaissance patrols over difficult country when the position of the enemy was unknown information. Later, during an advance, he led a bombing party against an enemy machine-gun post and caused the crew to be captured. Throughout he set a splendid example to his men.'
