As Adjutant of his Unit he has carried out his duties with the Battalion throughout its period in the trenches at Armentieres and during the operation on the Somme from 15th September to 3rd October 1916 in a most thorough and efficient manner with un-flagging energy.'

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Crevecoeur from 29th September to 3rd October, 1918. He personally supervised the ammunition and ration supplies to battalions under intense hostile fire. He invariably saw the whole issue carried out, and no battalion went short.'
