Mention in Despatches 'For conspicuous good work and devotion to duty since the arrival of his Battalion in France last April. As Adjutant of his Unit he has carried out his duties with the Battalion throughout its period in the trenches at Armentieres and during the operation on the Somme from 15th September to 3rd October 1916 in a most thorough and efficient manner with un-flagging energy.'

He personally supervised the ammunition and ration supplies to battalions under intense hostile fire. He invariably saw the whole issue carried out, and no battalion went short.'
