Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, at Gravenstafel on 4/10/1919. He led his platoon in the attack and when two Officers of his Company were killed he directed the work of another platoon besides his own in the successful work of his Company. Under heavy and harassing shell fire he handled his men with coolness and gallantry and supervised the work of consolidation, with remarkable ability and courage, and by his cheerful demeanour inspired the men to perform their important and onerous task.'
