Mention in Despatches

'On the evening of 11th September 1918 the Battery position near Metz was heavily shelled, three being killed, two wounded and a quantity of ammunition set on fire with the first few rounds. Immediately and with utter disregard of personal danger 2nd Lieutenant Greig went into the position to see if there was any hope for the men who were thought to be dead. The position was still being heavily shelled and the mmunition exploding but 2nd Lieutenant Greig remained there and supervised and helped in the extinguishing of the flames. The men, many of whom had been blown up, were considerably shaken but the bravery and coolness shown by this officer was a splendid example and did much to steady everyone.'
Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gazette', 31 December 1918.
