Originally enlisted as 2/881, 20 October 1914; commenced return to New Zealand from Egypt on board HT 'Ceramic', 4 May 1915 (venereal disease); discharged (medically unfit), 17 June 1915. Embarked Wellington on board HT 'Maunganui', 26 June 1916; found guilty, at sea, 1 August 1916: forvfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant, and fined 4/-; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916; marched into Sling Camp, 23 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 12 October 1916. Transferred to Headquarters Lewis Gun Section, 21 October 1916. Attached to II Anzac Reinforcements Camp, 4 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 19 June 1917. Reported missing, 12 October 1917. Court of Enquiry, 12 November 1917, concluded: 'Reasonable to suppose Killed in Action, 12 October 1917'.
