Mentioned in Despatches 'British Front, Armentieres, 2nd May to 7th August 1916, Operations on the Somme, 15th to 18th September 1916, (Switch Line) Captain Grainger, as Officer Commanding a company, has proved himself a fine leader of men, and has rendered most valuable service. His work was particularly brilliant when leading his company forward in the attack on the Switch Line on the 15th September, when he was
severely wounded.'
