Mentioned in Despatches 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has on several occasions assumed command of his section, and has carried out the duties with marked
ability. In the Douve Sector, on the night 6th/7th August, 1917, his section had moved up to the Front Line. Soon after the enemy opened a heavy bombardment
and our S.O.S. rocket was sent up. His Officer and 4 men became casualties, but he assumed command and kept his gun firing throughout the action.'
