War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 25 July 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 3 October 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 October 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 9 November 1916, and posted to 14th Company. Attached to 3rd Canadian Tunnelling Company, 13 March 1917; rejoined Bn, 28 June 1917. Wounded in action, 2 August 1917 (gun shot wound, scalp), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 18th General Hospital, Camiers, 3 August 1917; to No 5 Convalescent Depot, Cayeaux, 10 August 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 27 August 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 14 September 1917.
