Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on
Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. When his Officer had become a
casualty, he took charge of his platoon, consolidated his position under very heavy
rifle and machine-gun fire, and organised his sections preparatory to a further
advance. His work throughout was of the highest order.'
