War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 25 September 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 21 November 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Admitted to Isolation Section, Command Depot, Codford, 7 January 1917 (scabies); discharged from hospital, 26 January 1917; marched out to Reinforcements Group, Sling Camp, 3 February 1917. Appointed Cook, 18 February 1917. Found guilty, 29 May 1917, of being absent without leave from midnight, 27 May, to midnight, 28 May 1917: forfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 June 1917; joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 26 June 1917, and posted to C Company. Reported missing, 12 October 1917.
