War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 9 June 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 16 August 1917; marched into 4th Reserve Bn, Sling Camp, 24 August 1917. Confirmed in rank of Corporal, 1 October 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 October 1917; joined 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 26 October 1917, and posted to 2nd Company. Reverted to the ranks at own request, 27 October 1917. Wounded in action, 9 January 1918 (gun shot wounds, both arms, legs, thighs: fractured left humerus), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station. Died of wounds, 5 pm, 9 January 1918. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
