Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a considerable part of the period from 29th September to 3rd October 1918, during offensive operations against enemy positions east of Ribecourt and east of Manieres, this NCO was in
charge of the Battalion signallers and rendered distinguished and gallant service in that capacity, frequently at great personal risk. He was tireless in his efforts to maintain communication by all possible means both with front line Companies and also with Brigade, and by working without rest and without sparing himself he was successful to an extent that was remarkable under the conditions which existed. Intense shell fire made the maintenance of telephone lines a superhuman task and it is without doubt that a man not possessed of courage, tenacity, and the very
highest sense of duty should never have succeeded. No praise can be too high for his work.'
