Military Medal 'Attack on Switch Line, South east of High Wood, 15th September 1916, and on following days. This non commissioned officer showed conspicuous bravery and
devotion to duty during the attack of the 2nd Auckland Batt. against the Switch Trench and whilst consolidating the position gained. Again on the night of the 19/20th September, Sergeant Gilmore led a bombing squad with great gallantry and continued to throw bombs after being blown off his feet by a German bomb until a block had been made and the trench firmly held.'
