Military Medal 'Operations: British Front near Pont a Pierres and Beaudignies 23rd October 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Shortly after the attack commenced Corporal Galvin assumed command of his platoon, his Platoon Commander and platoon sergeant having both been killed. He led his platoon with great bravery and skill. On seeing troops on his flank being held up by a snipers'
post, he rushed the post killing one man and capturing an officer and a man. This prompt action undoubtedly saved many casualties. Although under heavy machine gun and shell fire throughout the day he moved fearlessly about, leading and helping his men, with absolute disregard for his personal safety, setting a magnificent example to all ranks.'
