Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership. He led his platoon with great dash on the flank of the enemy, who were holding up our advance with heavy sniping fire from an entrenched position. The enemy were routed, and our line was able to advance. The next day he executed a similar manoeuvre, capturing three machine guns and inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. Throughout the operations he displayed great courage and qualities of leadership of a high order.'
