War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Posted to unit, Mudros,, 3 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 25 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Transferred to Divisional Ammunition Column, Moascar, 11 March 1916. Transferred to 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, 22 March 1916, and posted to 8th Company. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 9 April 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France (date not recorded). Found guilty, 29 May 1916, of (1) being absent from billet from 8.30 pm until apprehended in town at 9.25 pm; (2) giving wrong name and number; (3) refusing to show pay book and identity disc when called upon to do so: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2. Detached to Reinforcements Camp, 5 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 11 June 1917. Detached to Summer Rest Home, 1 July 1917; rejoined Bn, 16 July 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
