Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, west of Passchendaele on October 12th 1917, and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 12th 1917, during attack on Passchendaele Ridge, Private A.T.N. Austin showed the greatest daring in leading his squad up to the front line and clearing the ground of wounded. This duty he continued time after time for more than twenty four hours and brought in many men who would have otherwise have been left. His coolness under fire and his daring enabled many lives to be saved and was a fine example of devotion to duty to the other men.'
