Admitted to NZ Field Ambulance, 20 February 1916 (mumps), and transferred to NZ Auxiliary Hospital, Ismailia; discharged to duty, 4 March 1916; rejoined Bn, 5 March 1916.

Emarked Port Said to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 6 April 1916.

Wounded in action, 21 November 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; discharged, 27 November 1916, and re-admitted same day (laryngitis); transferred to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 1 January 1917; transferred to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 13 January 1917; discharged to Base details, 20 January 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 14 February 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal to complete establishment, 7 July 1917.

Killed in action, 12 October 1917.

Buried at Passchendaele about Bellevue ridge: reported by 2ns Anzac Burial Corps; grave subsequently lost.
