'For conspicuous gallantry in the field. On the morning of the 22nd instant the platoon to which Pte Forrest belongs was subjected to an intense bombardment while holding a detached post in front of Kron Prinz Farm. The result of the shelling was that only 4 men escaped uninjured from the post. Pte Forrest was in charge of a Lewis gun Section. The post was under direct observation from a number of pillboxes in the direction of Wallenmolen Woolf Copse and Belle Vue. Pte Forrest went across 300 yards of open country and reported the conditions of affairs in the post to his Company Commander. He then got two stretchers and with one other man went back to the post and with the assistance of the unwounded men in the post got all the wounded out. This was all done in full view of the enemy. Pte Forrest although very badly shaken by shell fire, remained at duty and his attitude throughout was splendid and he showed an example of bravery and devotion to duty which influenced the men considerably during a particularly trying time.'
