Embarked Wellington, 31 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 26 July 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp.

Appointed Orderly Room Clerk and paid as such, 28 July 1916; relinquished position at own request, 20 November 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 6 January 1917; posted to 4th Battery, 3rd Brigade, as Gunner, in the field, 22 January 1917.

Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 23 January 1917 (scabies); transferred to No 10 Field Ambulance, 25 January 1917, and thence to Northumbrian Casualty Clearing Station same day; discharged to duty and rejoined unit, 4 February 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 2 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 18 September 1917.

Wounded in action, 25 October 1917 (gun shot wound, right hand and thigh), and admitted to 13th Canadian Field Ambulance; transferred to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 25 October 1917.

Died of wounds, 26 October 1917.
