Detached to NZ Wing, II Anzac Reinforcements Cp, 5 June 1917; rejoined unit, 19 June 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 3 November 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 26 November 1917. Wounded in action, Ypres, Belgium, 3 December 1917 (gun shot wound, right elbow, right shoulder), and admitted to 3rd NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 10th Casualty Clearing Station; to 7th General Hospital, St Omer, 4 December 1917; to England, 11 December 1917, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 12 December 1917.
