Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of a squadron on outpost duty the post was attacked by a superior force, but he held his position under heavy shell fire and rifle fire until ordered to retire. The retirement he conducted in a very able manner, and succeeded in getting all wounded back to our lines. His gallantry throughout the action, and his disregard of personal safety, afforded a very fine example to his men.'
