'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty in operations east of Ypres and the 12/13th October 1917. He was one of the Battalion Transport, and assisted in taking rations to the Battalion under very trying circumstances, and heavy shellfire. His constant courageous and cheerful conduct, in great danger, greatly assisted in getting the convoys safely to their destination.'
