Military Medal 'Operations: British front opposite Beaumont Hamel 26th March and subsequent days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above period, Private Fitzsimmons was employed as a Company runner. On 5th April 1918, during an exceptionally heavy enemy bombardment of our position, this man made many trips to Battalion Headquarters with reports from his Company commander, and so kept up communication. His coolness and courage were a magnificent example to all men of his Company, and the cheerful and reliable manner in which he
performed his duties was of the highest order.'
