War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 29 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 27 July 1916, and marched in to NZ Reserve Group, Sling Camp, 29 July 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 August 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 20 September 1916. Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 10 November 1916 (bronchitis); transferred to No 13 General Hospital, Boulogne, 12 November 1916; discharged to Base Depot, 28 November 1916; rejoined Bn, in the field, 7 December 1916. Admitted to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 13 December 1916 (bronchitis); transferred to England, 17 December 1916, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames. Classified as unfit by Medical Board, and placed on NZ Roll, 5 April 1917. Commenced return to New Zealand from Plymouth on board RMS 'Tainui', 26 April 1917; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of illness contracted in Active service), 4 September 1917.
