Admitted to Floriana Hospital, Malta, 1 January 1916 (concussion); transferred to Ghain Tufficha Convalescent Depot, 22 January 1916; marched into NZ Infantry Depot, Ghezireh, Egypt, 18 Febuary 1916.

Embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force, 10 May 1916.

Rejoined unit, in the field, 7 July 1916.

Found guilty, 25 July 1916, of leaving parade at Divisional Baths with permission and remaining absent without leave from 1530 hours, until 2200 hours: award, fined 21 days' pay and forfeits 1 days' pay by Royal Warrant.

On leave to the United Kingdom, 31 August 1917; rejoined unit, 12 September 1917.

Appointed Cook, 6 September 1917.

On leave to Paris, 25 November 1917; rejoined unit, 4 December 1917.

Detached to No.3 Canadian Tunnelling Coy, 16 January 1918; rejoined unit, 18 January 1918.

Proceeded to United Kingdom, 30 July 1918, for NZ tour of duty; marched into NZ Discharge Depot, Torquay, 1 August 1918.

Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board HT 'Remuera', 7 September 1918; admitted to Ship's Hospital, 15 September 1918; discharged, 25 September 1918; disembarked New Zealand, 22 October 1918; discharged (termination of period of engagement), 13 December 1918.
