Military Medal 'During the attack on Grid Trench on the 27th September 1916, L/Cpl Farrell was the only man left of his Lewis gun Team on reaching the enemy wire but he kept his gun in action effectively all day. By enfilading the enemy trench he materially
assisted in taking the trench. After firing at the enemy retiring, he took up an advanced position, covering his Company.'
