Military Medal 'On the 5th February 1918 the Westhoek Road near Reljewarde Lake east of Ypres was destroyed by shell fire and this NCO was in charge of the repair party. His party was scattered twice by shell fire and he was covered with mud thrown up by the bursting shells but he collected his party and carried the work through. His coolness and courage under very heavy shell fire set a fine example to his men and it was due to his exertions that a way was cleared to allow the traffic, including ambulances, to get through the shelled zone. His conduct throughout was splendid. This NCO has shown splendid pluck on previous occasions.'
