Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Grevillers on the 24th and Bancourt on the 31st August. This man is a company cook, but joined in the operations as a runner attached to Company headquarters, and did splendid work throughout the operations. On numerous occasions no stretcher bearers being about he would unhesitatingly expose himself to machine gun and snipers fire to
attend to a wounded man and if possible assist him back to a place of safety. He worked untiringly day and night constantly showing a splendid example of bravery and initiative to every man in the Company.'
