Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Crevecoeur, on 30th September, 1918, after crossing the canal on three occasions, he made a reconnaissance under heavy fire from enemy machine guns and snipers, and brought back valuable information. Throughout the day he set a fine example of courage and resource, and was of great assistance to his company commander in a very difficult position.'
