Mentioned in Despatches Source: London Gazette Date: Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George 'April/Aug 1915 Anzac & Alexandria. Since landing at Anzac, Col Esson has been employed both here & at the base at Alexandria, where he has assisted to organise the large amount of both personnel & material which had to be left there by the division. I cannot speak too highly of the services rendered by this officer to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force from the moment it left New Zealand, and to this division since its formation. His powers of organisation and sound judgement on all matters (not alone connected with his own branch) have been of the greatest assistance to me.'
