Military Medal 'At the assault on the Belle Vue Spur on October 12th this Non commissioned officer was in command of a Lewis gun Section. Under deadly machine gun and
Snipers? fire, and in spite of his whole section becoming casualties, he got his gun into action, and engaged a hostile machine gun until his own gun was put out of action and he himself wounded. Afterwards he took command of another gun team, and continued to do excellent work, holding his men together under heavy fire. By his coolness and bravery, he was a magnificent example to all ranks.'
